RAL Colours

Problems that you can simply brush over. You probably know the RAL colour numbers in the form of 4-digit code under the RAL Classic system.

A tip: If you work with RAL numbers, please also state the colour name so that RAL 1023 ("traffic yellow") is not accidentally mixed up with RAL 1032 ("broon yellow"). Here, you can find a list of all of the RAL colours - from "telemagenta" to "pearl copper".

• 1000 and up: yellow, beige
• 2000 and up: orange
• 3000 and up: red
• 4000 and up: violet
• 5000 and up: blue
• 6000 and up: green
• 7000 and up: grey
• 8000 and up: brown
• 9000 and up: black, white
  

With 210 colours, the choice is rather limited. In order to offer a greater variety, another system - RAL Design - with 7-digit codes (and 1688 colours) was created. Pantone® Matching System (PMS)

In the graphics and printing industry, the PMS ssytem that was developed in the US in 1963 is the most common colour system. The strength of the Pantone system is the fact that it provides special colous that cannot be reproduced by way of four-colour-printing.

HKS-Colour Fan deck

In the HKS colour register, 120 spot colours are defined. These colours can be used to mix more than 3,500 tones and shades for printing - www.hks-farben.de.
